Malanka is a holiday celebrated in Eastern Europe that involves dressing in elaborate costumes and going from house to house as a group singing traditional songs. It is celebrated on New Year's Day of the Orthodox calendar, a week after Orthodox Christmas - January 14 each year.

While many of the traditions of Orthodox Christmas are similar across Ukraine, the songs and clothing of the Hutsul culture are common in the Carpathian Mountains.
